During an interview with the media, Carl Pei has confirmed us the release of the second smartphone of the franchise, the Nothing phone 2. He is planning to prioritise his marketing efforts in the United States, expanding their sales. His confirmation meant the team is already making efforts for the release of the smartphone by the end of 2023.

 

Since Carl Pei will focus his market on the United States, it is more likely that the Nothing Phone 2 will launch in the US market first before other countries. He said that during the second year of the work, they had already focused too much on bringing the team together and build the products.

 

The team wasn’t able to focus on prioritising the US market. However, after the success of their initial release of Nothing 1, it has become possible for them to step foot onto the US market.

 

Carl Pei, who co-founded OnePlus ..OnePlus, released ‘Nothing Phone 1’ last year under his tech startup Nothing. The flagship smartphone created a lot of buzz in the market for its eye-catching sleek design and top-notch performance. The smartphone was followed by the launch of the Nothing Ear 1 and Nothing Ear (Stick) earbuds.

 

Carl Pei founded OnePlus. He released ‘Nothing Phone 1’ under his tech startup, Nothing. The smartphone was released last year and it’s sleek design and fast performance created competition in the smartphone market.

Nothing Phone 2 Design.

 

The Smartphone will be designed a look more premium than the previous flagship handset, ‘Nothing Phone 1.’ This time, the team is focusing more on the software aspect of the upcoming handset. This means we can expect lighter OS build and stylish UI.

 

Their first smartphone introduced while LED strips that are attached on the transparent glass back to form a pattern called ‘glyphs.’ This means we can see the smartphone’s internal components. The sides of the phone are flat just like the iPhone 12. It has an IP53 splash, water and dust resistance rating.

 

The “Glyph” has 900 small LEDs which uses an Interface that lights up according to sync with the phone sounds. It also shows the phone charging status.

 

The smartphone is made of recycled aluminium along with plastic components that are made from bio-base or post-consumer recycled materials. It features Gorilla Glass 5 on the display and Gorilla Glass 6 covered on other surfaces along with an in-display fingerprint.

 

The smartphone has stereo speakers, however it does not have a headphoned jack. There is Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC capabilities. There are only two colours available, white and black.

Hardware

 

The processor for the first entry smartphone is Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ processor. The screen is 6.5 inch with 1080 x 2400 resolution with the refresh rate of 120 Hz. It has a punch hole display screen. The phone is able to display 1 billion colours and it’s screen can be bright as up to 1200 nits. It packs a 4500 mAh battery with 33W charging.

 

This means the phone can charge from 0% to 50% in just 30 minutes and can fully charge in 70 minutes. The phone also supports wireless charging upto 15W. It can also reverse-charge upto 5W supporting Quick Charge 4.0 and Power Delivery 3.0 up to 33W as well. You can choose three variants for the phone, 8+128, 8+256 or 12+256 RAM and storage.

 

It has 50-megapixel dual cameras, consisting of main and ultra-wide cameras. There is both optical image stabilization and electronic image stabilization for the main camera. It is able to record 4K video at 30 fps and FHD videos at 60 fps. A red LED lights up on the back when a video is being recorded.

Software

 

The previous entry phone runs on Nothing OS. It is an operating system based on Android’s. The OS is built so that it can connect with their own products and products from other brands as well. It is said to have “a fast, smooth, and personal experience.”

How Nothing 1 came to Light

 

The Nothing company was formed in 2020. Their first phone was named under a code name, Spacewar. Carl Pei, the former co-founder of OnePlus announced the phone on 27th January, 2021.

 

Pei announced this some months after he left OnePlus. The company’s main goal was to “remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future.”

 

After their release of the first product, they later released the Ear 1. They had also formed a partnership with Qualcomm, which meant that they will be using a Snapdragon chips for their next release.

 

During the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March 2022, there were talks about the release of the Nothing phone. They displayed its prototype to the executives, including Qualcomm. They secured $70 million is Series B Financing and then it announced its March 23 keynote and their first smartphone.

Display

 

There were rumours circulating that the Nothing phone 2 will have an AMOLED display with the refresh rate of 120Hz. This is the same as Nothing phone 1, which is not really surprising

 

There were no mentions by any officials of the display size or resolution for the Nothing Phone 2. The only guess we take is that the team will provide the same display that was introduce on the first phone. The 6.55-inch OLED display with Full HD+ (2400 x 1080) resolution with HDR support

 

They revealed the design of the phone on June 20, 2022 at the Art Basel Show in Basel, Switzerland. It also confirmed the announce of additional information regarding the Nothing Phone 1 on July 12 which included the pricing and specs.

 

The phone was released in an online event on July 12, 2022.

Rumours for the Nothing Phone 2

 

According to 91mobiles, Qualcomm’s SVPP and GM of the Mobile, Compute, and XR business unit, Alex Katouzian reported on his LinkedIn profile while he was congratulating the Nothing team for using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.

 

On 28th February 2023, the company confirmed that the Nothing Phone 2 will be using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 hardware, along with Carl Pei.

 

Sources reportedly told MySmartPrice that the Nothing phone (2) will arrive “in the third quarter of 2023”. Some specs were also detailed, with suggestions of a Snapdragon 8 series chip, 12GB RAM and 256GB of storage.

 

An AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate has been claimed, as well as a 5000mAh battery.

 

According to MySmartPrice, sources reported that the second smartphone of the franchis will arrive in the later part of 2023.

 

After confirming the inclusion of the Snapdragon 8 series chip, with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, the AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate with 5000mAH battery is also said to be included for the Nothing Phone 2

 

On 30th January, Carl Pei confirmed the release of the Nothing Phone 2 on the late end of the year. He will be focusing solely on the US market.

 

The team could not focus on expanding the market in the US for the first phone because they put their entire work on team building.

 

However, after their success for the first phone, they will be opening their second phone in the US. Carl Pei, told that the US is their No. 1 priority in terms of markets.

 

The company’s main aim for the Nothing phone 1 was to make the smartphone world interesting again. It launched after a few months after the hype.

 

The Nothing phone follows the footsteps of OnePlus, the phone was well appreciated on the basis of design and build, which was the main interest of the team. This made the competition strong among the other big brands.
